ABOUT US
The organization of ASAM at the Chesapeake Conference level provides an interactive source of ideas and encouragement for local leaders. It is our goal to reach and empower single adults to create Christ-centered safe places for fellowship, nurture and service. ASAM provides an important service to the singles in our church. Many live lives of isolation and loneliness which, at times, can leave a person feeling unloved, unwanted, and not really understood by their churches. We were created with a strong social need and we certainly do not want to neglect to minister to this need, otherwise some may seek to fill this need outside the church. So we feel this ministry is one of the most important ministries within our church. It was people like this who were among Christ’s most devoted followers during His ministry on earth.
We have activities each month for singles, often sponsoring “church days” at churches that have singles so that they can learn about our ministry and meet other singles. At “church days” we often promote a singles’ Sabbath school class or provide special music. After the service we have a fellowship potluck. In smaller churches we often conduct the Sabbath worship service. Then in the afternoon the singles may go on a walk or visit a park, returning to the church to close the Sabbath with an afternoon vespers followed by an evening meal and perhaps a social.
